Carla Klattenhoff

Carla Klattenhoff is a senior director of preclinical research in the cardiovascular department at Bayer AG and senior director, head Joint Lab Precision Cardiology. Her work focuses on discovery and validation of novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases by integrating data from snRNA sequencing, human genetics, and cell-based functional assays.

Prior to joining Bayer, Klattenhoff worked at the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research, where she was a lab head and project team leader in the cardiovascular and metabolic diseases group. In her role at NIBR she gained experience as a team leader and member of drug discovery projects of both biologics and small molecule therapeutics, ranging from target validation to proof of concept in patients.

Klattenhoff obtained her Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she studied the role of piRNAs in D. melanogaster oogenesis. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology investigating the role of lncRNAs in cardiovascular lineage commitment of embryonic stem cells.
