Robert discovered his love of science at a young age by reading science books from his local library. He was interested in spending his summer doing research because he knew it would be an excellent opportunity to get involved in current scientific challenges.

Robert worked on a microfluidics project, the goal of which was to encapsulate individual e. coli cells within microscopic droplets. He tested two different pico-injection designs, with a larger goal of being able to study these cells one at a time to gain an understanding of their unique, individual gene expression.

Robert really enjoyed being able to use advanced laboratory equipment and computer software to create real, working microfluidic droplets. His summer experience further confirmed his passion for science and interest in becoming a scientist.
