NeuroGAP-Psychosis

NeuroGAP-Psychosis endeavors to broaden our understanding of the genetic factors that contribute to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This genome-wide association study (GWAS) is being carried out in partnership with five academic and research institutions in south and east Africa:

  • Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia
  • KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kenya
  • Moi University, Kenya
  • University of Cape Town, South Africa
  • Makerere University, Uganda

The NeuroGAP-Psychosis team — comprising researchers, clinicians, project managers, and others at Broad and participating institutions — aims to collect and genotype saliva samples from more than 17,000 patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and a equal number of matched controls, by 2022.
