Yao Mekareeya, Ph.D.
Research Scientist
Yao (Aroonroj) Mekareeya is a research scientist within the Center for the Development of Therapeutics (CDoT) at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. He joined the Broad Institute in April 2021 and works under the direction of David McKinney. Mekareeya leads medicinal chemistry campaigns to develop small molecules for the treatment of cancer and psychiatric diseases.
Prior to joining the Broad Institute, Mekareeya worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Martin Smith’s research group at the University of Oxford, where his research focused on organo-asymmetric catalysis and photocatalysis. He obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the same university, where he worked on the mechanistic studies of metal-catalyzed reactions under the supervision of Edward Anderson.
