NeuroMex

The NeuroMex study aims to expand knowledge of the genetic and environmental risk factors for neuropsychiatric disorders in Mexico through large-scale sample collection and analysis, so that future advances in science and therapeutics can account for and be applicable to Mexican populations. Additionally, the study seeks to further the field's understanding of the genetics of Mexican populations while also enhancing genetic research capacity in Mexico through the training of scientists and supporting the development of locally led research programs. This study is a collaboration between the Broad Institute, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz National Institute of Psychiatry (INPRFM).

The NeuroMex team — comprising researchers, clinicians, project managers, and others at Broad and participating institutions — aims to collect and genetically analyze blood samples from more than 4,600 patients with a psychotic disorder, and an equal number of matched controls, by 2023.

The NeuroMex team regularly participates in academic conferences, presenting updates on the study and its current findings. Recordings of these presentations and presentation materials can be found below as well as dates of upcoming presentations.

Upcoming Research Project:

The NeuroMex team is looking forward to starting a new research study that will look at the genetics of eating disorders. Stay tuned for more information.

2019 BROAD RETREAT CONFERENCE POSTER
Expanding Knowledge of Genetic Risk Factors of Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder in Mexico: Neuropsychiatric Genetics of Psychosis in Mexican Populations (NeuroMex)
*The number of participants was correct as of 2019, the NeuroMex study now plans to collect over 9,000 participants by 2023. The project’s timeline as shown above has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
