Kerstin Lindblad-Toh is cited for her efforts in leading the Canine Genome Sequencing Project at the Broad Institute. Lindblad-Toh and colleagues are using information from purebred dog genomes to find genes for osteosarcoma. Next they plan to look at other canine diseases, including cancer, diabetes and epilepsy. Because humans share many of the same diseases as their four-legged friend, this information should also help provide important clues for fighting related diseases in people.
