The application period has closed for the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard's 2023 Media Boot Camp program.
This annual program connects health/science journalists and editors with faculty from the Broad Institute, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, and Harvard’s teaching hospitals for a two-day event exploring how the latest advances in genomics are transforming biomedicine. Attendees will explore possible future storylines, gain fundamental background knowledge, and build relationships with researchers. The program format includes presentations, discussions, and lab tours.
The Media Boot Camp will take place in person at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA on Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12 (with an evening welcome reception on Wednesday, May 10).
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MARCH 24 (5:00 PM EASTERN TIME).
All attendees must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19.
2023 Boot Camp topics include:
Antimicrobial resistance: Studying how drug resistance emerges and spreads in pathogens, and new steps to accelerate the fight against these deadly infections.
Understanding the brain: Delving into the cellular and molecular features of our most complex organ to better understand psychiatric conditions.
Genomics across species: Understanding how genomic data from humans and other mammals can shed light on health, disease, and other traits.
Gene editing: Building new gene editing and delivery tools by harnessing natural molecular systems, and improving existing approaches for treating genetic diseases.
Machine learning: Applying machine learning and artificial intelligence to address large-scale challenges in biomedicine.
This Media Boot Camp is an educational offering. All presentations are on background.
Hotel accommodations and meals during the program will be provided by the Broad Institute. Attendees must cover travel costs to and from Boston.
