Hiring Process

Career Center FAQs

How do I apply?

If you have seen a position that interests you, please take a few minutes to apply online using the Apply Now button on the job posting. This will not take long - we just need your contact information, job preferences, resume, and for some jobs we will also ask you a few questions about your experience.

How do I indicate that a current employee referred me?

When you log in to the system, use the drop-down box and choose “Referral” next to the question “How did you hear about us?” You will then be asked “Specifically, what source?” and this is where you’ll select “Employee Referral.” Please list that employee’s name when asked during the application process.

What’s next?

You will receive an acknowledgement email when your submission is received. Your resume will then be compared to the qualifications and criteria for the position you have selected. If you are chosen as a candidate, one of our recruiters or hiring managers will contact you. We use email and telephone to stay in touch, so it is a good idea to check messages regularly to ensure a timely process. If no current positions are a good fit for your skills, your resume will be retained in our database and matched against other open positions in the future.

How are my qualifications assessed?

Your qualifications are initially assessed based on the written documentation that you provide when you are applying. Interview team members use your interview responses during all phases of the recruitment process, along with other information such as your application, resume, references, and additional information you may provide to further assess your qualifications.

How long do you keep my resume on file?

Your resume is maintained in our applicant tracking system for two years. However, we encourage you to periodically check our current job listings and maintain an updated profile.

What can I expect from an on-site interview?

Before your visit you will receive an interview agenda. You will also be given instructions on filling out an online employment application, which is to be completed in its entirety before your interview. Be specific and cite examples from your employment so we can better understand your experiences. Prepare your own list of questions to ask the interviewers. We hope our recruitment process will give you insight into the organization, our culture and the job opportunity. You may be asked to visit with us multiple times to ensure that you meet with the key stakeholders and that we answer all of your questions.

How should I prepare for an interview with the Broad Institute?

There are several important steps to take in preparation for your interview:

  •     Research the company.
  •     Be well rested.
  •     Arrive for the interview about 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  •     Bring several copies of your resume (CV) to distribute, if necessary.
  •     Be prepared to answer questions related to your experience, education, skills, certifications and training.
  •     Think about how accurately your answers to those questions (above) convey your experience and skills.

  •     Finally, just relax and be confident. If you are invited to a face-to-face interview at the Broad Institute, you are already among the best candidates in your field.

After a job is posted, how long does it take to hire an employee?

This varies with each position. We work diligently to expedite the recruitment and selection process but there are a number of factors involved that impact the timeframe such as number of candidates, the availability of the interview team members and/or candidates, along with reference check requirements. We encourage candidates who are actively interviewing with the Broad Institute to stay in contact with the recruiter during the process about any updates to availability and status.
