Join Equity in Biomedicine and Women At Broad for a fireside chat between Dr. Nyasha Chambwe and our very own Dr. Alicia Martin to discuss Racial Disparities in Cancer Research and Outcomes.
Dr. Chambwe’s work focuses on understanding the biological basis for cancer health disparities experienced by understudied populations, particularly those of African descent, with an eye toward informing better interventions that will lead to equitable health outcomes.
Dr. Martin conducts research examining the role of human history in shaping global genetic and phenotypic diversity. Given vast Eurocentric study biases, she examines the transferability of knowledge gained from large-scale genetic studies across globally diverse populations.

In collaboration with the René Salazar Speaker Series, Join Dr. Eliseo Pérez-Stable as he talks about his role as Director at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) at the NIH. Learn about NIMHD’s work to enhance awareness of health disparities, find ways to improve minority health, and reduce health inequities for underserved and vulnerable groups. Dr. Pérez Stable will also discuss the importance of including social and environmental, alongside genomics data - to better understand underlying biology and achieve health equity.
