Developing diagnostics and treatments
At the Broad Institute, researchers are revealing deep biological insights about the causes of disease, which are leading to new ways to monitor, diagnose, and treat patients with greater precision. These include new tools that help predict diseases well before symptoms appear, and more effective therapeutics that reduce the chance of relapse or drug resistance. Learn more about #HowWeScience.
COVID-19 PCR Diagnostic
Processing COVID-19 PCR tests to support public health efforts
Since the early days of the pandemic, the Broad Institute has run a large COVID-19 diagnostic center. In its first two years, this center, operated by the Genomics Platform at the Broad, processed and analyzed more than 35 million samples to support public health efforts. Broad employees have worked around the clock to develop and maintain the uniquely large and automated diagnostic facility, which can process up to 140,000 PCR tests per day. Take a look at how a sample is processed from start to finish and learn how the results are also supporting efforts to monitor for new viral variants.
