Building communities
Global partnerships are essential to addressing the world's most pressing — and complex — biological and medical challenges. At the Broad Institute, researchers create, steward, and partner in international collaborations with scientists around the world. We work with researchers and patients to tackle important challenges in biomedicine and find innovative, high-impact solutions. Learn more about #HowWeScience.
Human Cell Atlas: International collaboration
A global consortium of thousands of scientists is building a complete reference map of all human cells.
The Human Cell Atlas (HCA) consortium aims to create a complete reference map of all human cells and advance our understanding of health and disease. Because no single lab can complete such a massive undertaking, scientists from hundreds of institutions around the world have come together to build the HCA. During the initial phase of this project, researchers at the Broad Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute helped mobilize international scientific communities to start planning this ambitious initiative. This large-scale effort aspires to generate resources and data and make them open and accessible to researchers anywhere, to help accelerate scientific and medical progress.
