In 2019, the Broad Institute will launch a brand-new program for students over April vacation week called “Broadie for a Week.”
Broadie for a Week participants will have the opportunity to explore what it’s like to be a scientist at the Broad over the course of four days. Students will learn both wet lab and computational scientific skills important in the field of biomedicine, all while being exposed to the exciting research happening at the Broad. The program will be a mix of interactive activities, lab tours, hands-on shadowing of professionals in a variety of labs, team-building activities, and the opportunity to meet scientists with varied backgrounds who are at different stages in their careers.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM BENEFITS
- Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day
- Reimbursement for transportation costs
- No cost to attend
Program dates: April 16 – April 19, 2019

On the BSSP application, students can opt-in to also be considered for admission to Broadie for a Week if they are not selected for BSSP. No additional application will be required.
Will choosing to be considered for Broadie for a Week decrease my chances of being accepted to BSSP?
No. All applications will first be reviewed for admission to BSSP. Students who are not selected that have also indicated interest in Broadie for a Week will then be considered for admission to the program.
When will I be notified of acceptance to the program, and how much time will I have to decide if I want to participate?
Applicants will be notified by mid-March regarding acceptance to the program and will have 1 week to decide if they would like to participate.
Can I still participate if I have a conflict during a period of the week?
No, participants are expected to attend all program activities for the duration of the program.
Can I participate in both BSSP and Broadie for a Week?
Students who are accepted to BSSP will not be considered for a spot in the Broadie for a Week program.
I do not live in the Boston area. Can I still participate if I find my own housing accommodations?
No, the eligibility requirements for Broadie for a Week are the same as BSSP. Students must attend a high school in the greater Boston area and be able to commute daily to the Broad Institute.
Do participants receive compensation?
No, but there is no cost to attend the program. Students will also be reimbursed for their transportation costs, and breakfast and lunch will be provided each day.
