Michal Lipinski, Ph.D.
Senior Research Scientist
Michal Lipinski is a senior research scientist at the Spatial Technology Platform of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he works under the supervision of Sami Farhi. He joined the platform in December 2023 and his interest lies in using spatial transcriptomics sequencing methods to study psychiatric disease. He hopes to model and investigate drug responses in diseased neuronal systems, ultimately aiming to improve mental health treatments that have stalled in recent decades.
Prior to joining the platform, Lipinski worked for almost five years as a postdoc with Paola Arlotta at Harvard Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology and Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research. There, he used cortical organoid models of bipolar disorder to study patient response to lithium. During this time, he gained significant single-cell biology training through co-mentorship by Aviv Regev at the Klarman Cell Observatory.
Lipinski earned his Ph.D. in neuroscience at the Instituto de Neurociencas de Alicante and Universidad Miguel Hernandez de Elche in Spain, which earned the distinction of an outstanding dissertation award. His work focused on basic biological mechanisms of cell identity and gene expression. He also holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in biotechnology from the Warsaw Life Science University in Poland.
