Lee McGuide, COO

Lee McGuire is the chief communications officer at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and serves on the executive leadership team.

The Office of Communications aims to raise the profile and familiarity of the Broad Institute, steward the institute’s reputation, and inform and connect members of the Broad community. The office supports science writing, media relations, events, web presence and maintenance, social media, visual communications, scientific data visualization, internal communications, and video production.

McGuire also leads Broad’s Office of Government Relations. This office helps build relationships between Broad and public agencies and officials to inform public policy and extend Broad’s mission of scientific public service.

Since 2020, McGuire has served as chair of the board for the Kendall Square Association. He is a founding member of Out@Broad, the Broad Institute’s internal affinity group for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies.

Before joining the Broad in 2015, McGuire served on the superintendent’s executive leadership team as chief communications officer for the Boston Public Schools. He is a reporter by training and spent twelve years covering government and health care policy for radio and television stations across the country, including in Boise, Austin, and Houston.

McGuire earned a B.A. in politics from Princeton University and a M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
