Kiran Garimella, M.S., D.Phil.
Director of Computational Biology, Data Sciences Platform; Institute Scientist
Kiran Garimella is director of computational biology in the Data Sciences Platform at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he is also an institute scientist. Garimella has extensive experience in the development and application of cloud-based data processing methods and automated analyses for third-generation sequencing data. He currently leads the Data Sciences Platform’s Long Reads group, which aims to transform the genomics landscape by undertaking long-read sequencing of human and infectious disease genomes.
Garimella earned a D.Phil. in genomic medicine and statistics from the University of Oxford’s Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, and completed postdoctoral studies at the Oxford Big Data Institute. He currently co-chairs the NIH’s All of Us Long Read Working Group, which is undertaking the discovery and analysis of previously unseen variation in ~20,000 diverse individuals.
