Career Profile: Stephanie Loranger

Stephanie Loranger does everything at once. As director of project planning and execution, she collaborates with staff throughout the Broad on high-impact, multi-disciplinary research that spans many projects and platforms. Stephanie and her team work to ensure that Broad researchers have good working relationships with funders and comply with legal and contractual obligations, all while creating excellent science.

Stephanie loves working at the Broad because she gets to work with scientists from all the platforms and programs and administration. "Broadies are exceptionally committed to doing the big things that really matter," Stephanie said. "I love that I get to enable scientists who are working to understand and cure cancer, or develop new therapeutics for infectious diseases, or understand the biology of aging..."

Outside of work, Stephanie multitasks by collaborating with her husband to take care of three children and a dog. She enjoys cooking, making sure that the whole family is eating healthy food and as many local products as possible. Stephanie has enjoyed traveling to Peru, and would love to visit that classic biologist's vacation spot, the Galapagos Islands. If she got stranded on one of those islands, the books she would want to have with her are Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice Gabriel García Márquez's 100 Years of Solitude, Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, and Allie Brosh's Hyperbole and a Half web comic/blog.

One day, Stephanie hopes to see cancer cured. Until then, she will work to help that effort, bearing in mind her motto, a quote from British statesman Benjamin Disraeli: "Circumstances are beyond human control, but our conduct is in our own power."
