Andrew became interested in the Broad Summer Scholars Program when he realized it would be an opportunity to apply his previous experience in computer science to the world of biology, with which he was not yet familiar.

Andrew created a dynamic data-visualization module for the results of Project Achilles, which allows users to seek out genomic attributes that correlate with genetic vulnerabilities across a variety of cancer cell lines. He also explored ways to use the ATLANTIS algorithm to process data with the goal of detecting and investigating currently unknown interactions among genomic attributes of cancer cells.

Andrew’s favorite part of the Broad was the diverse background of people in his group and lab. “I have talked with biologists, software engineers, and mathematicians,” he said, “and it is very interesting to hear how they can apply their specific areas of expertise to common problems.”
