Canine Diabetes

Diabetes is an inability to make or respond to insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels. In dogs several types of early and late onset diabetes exist and gestational diabetes is common in some breeds.

Latest Research Update: A comparison of the genome between dogs affected and unaffected by diabetes shows interesting regions that are different between the two groups. However more samples are needed to strengthen the current results and in this context we are mainly focusing on Border Collies and Swedish Elkhounds.

Breeds: Swedish Elkhound, Border Collie, Cairn Terrier, Norwegian Elkhound, Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Samoyed, Australian Terrier, West Highland Terrier
