Alykhan Shamji, Ph.D.
Alykhan Shamji joined the Broad Institute in 2007 and now serves as the executive director of the institute’s Center for the Science of Therapeutics (CSofT). He works closely with Broad investigators to apply chemical biology approaches that advance the mission of the institute: accelerating the understanding and treatment of disease. He leads a research group in this area, and is responsible for administering specific CSofT activities and projects. Additionally, he oversees the financial and operational administration of the Chemical Biology Program, now part of CSofT.
Shamji’s work focuses on the discovery and characterization of small molecules that have the potential to impact disease research and medicine. Working with the scientific community, his group aims to understand the relationship between disease genetics, pathophysiology, and the response to small molecules, with the goal of defining and testing strategies for therapeutic intervention. His projects focus on cancer, diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Before joining the Broad, Shamji was a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, focusing on pharmaceuticals, clinical diagnostics, and strategic acquisitions. He received both his A.B. in biochemical sciences and his Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University.
