BIPDeC - Probe Development Pipeline
The Broad Institute is a Probe Development Center within the MLPCN (Broad Institute Probe Development Center [BIPDeC]) and we perform probe development projects accepted by the NIH and assigned to our Center. While project selection is ultimately determined by the grant review committee at the NIH, the Broad Institute Application Review Committee will endorse some NIH grant application projects for acceptance by the MLPCN. Most, if not all, projects endorsed by our Committee will be performed at BIPDeC.
This page provides the resources necessary to learn about and apply for BIPDeC endorsement of NIH R03 applications and Fast Track applications.
Endorsement Process
All projects accepted by the NIH receive funding for screening and chemistry optimization via either the NIH R03 mechanism or a Fast Track mechanism. The full NIH RFA can be reviewed here.
To apply for a letter of endorsement from BIPDeC, it is important that we learn about your project as early as possible. This is accomplished by contacting Dr. Nicola Tolliday who manages our Outreach Lab. Dr. Tolliday has mentored hundreds of scientists through the grant application process and manages a facility that has helped many researchers perform pilot screens and generate the data required for successful R03 applications. She is also well versed in the Fast Track application process and has successfully guided many investigators into our Center using this mechanism.
As outlined by the NIH, all projects accepted for screening by the NIH through the BIPDeC will be subject to the NIH MLPCN Project Team Position on Data Sharing and IP in the MLPCN Program.
R03 Submission Deadlines
The date for the last R03 submission to the NIH is January 4, 2012 with a Letter of Intent due to the NIH on December 4, 2011. If you would like an endorsement from the Broad MLPCN Center for your submission, please provide us with a rough draft of your application by December 12, 2011.
Fast Tracks
If the development of a screen has been listed as a goal in a peer-reviewed grant, it may be possible to access the MLPCN through the Fast Track mechanism. These applications are reviewed by the NIH on a monthly basis. For more information, please click the Fast Track link above to review the requirements and contact us as well for further guidance.
