Overview
BIOINFORMATICS ANALYST, Broad Institute-Genome Sequencing and Analysis Group, Medical Population Genetics Program will manage data production and analysis pipelines for flagship Program projects like 1000 Genomes, Whole Exome, and Type 2 Diabetes resequencing with revolutionary implications in human medical genetics. The successful candidate will also serve as a central expert resource on pipeline tools, documenting best-practices and tutoring community members, and working with team members and investigators to carry out specific analyses as needed. Will join a lively team and wider community of computational biologists, medical geneticists, and software engineers dedicated to realizing the potential of next-generation DNA sequencing for medical genetics.
Requirements
Excellent organizational and communication abilities along with biological domain knowledge as demonstrated by a bachelor’s degree in biology, bioinformatics, statistics or equivalent. Must possess general computational and programming skills; familiarity with Java, Python, and analysis tools like MATLAB and/or R preferred. Must be able to manage multiple simultaneous long-term computational projects while meeting frequent project deadlines. Prior experience with next-generation DNA sequencing data a plus. Excellent oral and written English communication skills required. Must be able to translate high-level data processing and analysis requests into concrete tasks and operate independently to achieve the needed results. Must enjoy contributing as a team member in an interactive team environment.
Characteristic duties
Characteristic duties include: Serve as the first-line contact point between Program Investigators, Project Managers and Platform staff to ensure production data analysis proceeds in a coordinated, efficient manner. In collaboration with Technology Platform Managers and Project Managers, troubleshoots and monitors quality of projects throughout analysis process. Ensures that projects meet data processing and analysis milestones, including regularly reporting on project status. Coordinates data submission and release to public data repositories and internal and external investigators along production analysis results. Provides analytic and programming support to senior members of the group, MPG and its collaborators to analyze the data for large-scale medical resequencing projects. Prepares written reports and presentations for internal use and publication. Must enable the research of other program scientists though excellent communication, project management, and teamwork.
