Glenn Cowley

Glenn Cowley, a research scientist within the Broad Institute’s RNAi Platform, collaborates with many groups within and outside of the Broad Institute to run genome-scale pooled screens to advance projects in all areas of biology. Cowley is also a co-leader of Project Achilles, which aims to identify cancer’s genetic dependencies. Cowley and his colleagues use short hairpin RNAs to individually silence genes and look for those that affect proliferation in cancer cells, suggesting new vulnerabilities. The team can use genome-scale screens to simultaneously look across more than 500 cancer cell lines for vulnerabilities that could one day be targeted with drugs and genetically matched to cancer patients.

Cowley joined the Broad Institute in April 2007 after working as a postdoctoral fellow and senior scientist at Abbott Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. He received his B.A. in biology from Brandeis University and Ph.D. in genetics from Harvard University.
