We carried out a genome wide scan for susceptibility loci in asthma in a
Finnish founder subpopulation. One region showed strong evidence of
linkage for three phenotypes: asthma,
high Immunoglobulin E level, and
the combination of the phenotypes. This region was then examined in
another founder population from the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region,
Northeastern Quebec. In 22 pedigrees, significant linkage was found for
asthma, but not for the other related phenotypes.
