Stacey Gabriel

Stacey Gabriel is head of Cancer and Medical Sequencing at the Broad. In this role, she works closely with the institute’s program leaders to set strategy and align production and analytic priorities for sequencing projects. Gabriel also serves as co-director of the Medical and Population Genetics Program.
Gabriel leads a number of large-scale sequencing projects at the Broad. She serves on the steering committee and leads the Broad effort in sequencing and analysis for The Cancer Genome Atlas. She is also leading an exome sequencing project for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). She previously served as the scientific director of the Broad’s contribution to the International HapMap Project and was a member of the HapMap Project steering committee. In this capacity, she contributed to the design of protocols for genotyping, methods of quality assessment and quality control, data sharing and transfer protocols, human studies approvals and all production genotyping. She now serves as a member of the steering committee for the 1000 Genomes Project and is also co-chair of the project’s production subcommittee.
Gabriel joined the Whitehead Institute/MIT Center for Genome Research in 1998, where she successfully led the center’s contribution to the SNP Consortium Allele Frequency project.
Gabriel received her B.S. in molecular biology from Carnegie Mellon University and Ph.D. in human genetics from Case Western Reserve University.
